MMA is a contact combat sport whereby grappling and striking is allowed, hence the physical abilities of the fighters is very important. In order to have endurance and strength lifting weights is one of the most used training methods used by most athletes.there are many means of lifting weights eg while squatting, bench press, overhead press etc. lifting weights also depends on the category of the fighter either by weight, reach and height.
The fighters must have set amounts of time in lifting so as to keep a balance in training, so they mainly focus on fight training, strength training will be avoided unless there is a specific reason for climbing ranks as a fighter and weight class.this type of lifting increases the neuromuscular efficiency.since punching and kicks don’t require a lot of strength to hit hard MMA fighters require some muscle strength but they mainly focus on speed and endurance.
